Anglesey, Beaumaris from above the Cemetery
Anglesey
is the largest of the islands in the United Kingdom. An ancient
land of Celts and Druids, abundant with ancient monuments
like burial chambers, standing stones, and early settlements.
After
the Romans left Anglesey many early
Celtic saints, like St Seiriol and St Cybi, began religious cells
here, and they have all left their mark on Anglesey's history.
It
has the longest place name in the world, and also the Menai Suspension
Bridge, which at the time of its' being built was the longest
suspension
bridge in the world - designed by Thomas Telford.
The
shortest sea route to Ireland is from Holyhead, and at one time
Parys
Mountain
was
the largest producer of copper in the world.
More famous - I suppose - today for the wonderful beaches,
the atmosphere of peace, and the slow moving way of life that
the
Anglesey peoples enjoy.
It
is also the place where Prince William - who will one day be
the Prince of Wales and later the King, and his intended bride
-
Kate Middleton - live.
