Churches in Britain and Ireland. High resolution old and contemporary photographs of Churches and other places of Worship in Holyhead (Caergybi) Page III in the county of Anglesey (Sir Fôn) in North Wales, part of the United Kingdom. Anglesey, Holyhead, New Park Street Baptist Church Exterior When it was built in 1860, New Park Street English Baptist Church was called a Chapel, not that there is any difference, only in how we conceive them. The first stone was laid by the renowned and highly respected Reverend Charles Huddon Spurgeon, and the engraved silver plated trowel that he used still hangs in a semi spherical cabinet on the Chapel wall. The charismatic Reverend Spurgeon - a preacher since a very young age - was known as the Prince of Preachers, and held in very high esteem, not only as a leading clergyman, but also as a writer. When I visited on the 11th of November 2008, I was grateful to be accommodated by the Reverend Clive Alder, who graciously showed me around the chapel, both upstairs and downstairs. He explained various things about the Baptist Church, and I was interested to discover that a 'Baptistry' was a tank of water (thankfully pre-heated for the purpose) where someone in the church who was to be baptised was immersed. To be baptised in their faith meant that the whole body was immersed in the water.
