When I first thought about how I would lay out the website, I decided to order and file them by their traditional county names. In the case of Cumbria, which in 1974 was formed out of the former counties of Cumberland, Westmorland, and parts of Lancashire and even Yorkshire, it would be confusing to have left them in their traditional county names. Therefore, in this one case, I have opted for the new county name of Cumbria. In fact it is not a new name, as the name Cumbria has been used for centuries, from the Celtic days. The name derives from the word Cymru - the Welsh name for Wales, the land of the Celts.
