Archives and Record Offices in the United Kigdom of Great Britain.

Archives in the UK are mainly to be found in local county record offices, libraries and universities. They store lots of records on behalf of their respective counties and countries, and they are a prime source to the person researching their family history.

These records - to mention just a few - will include births, marriages, and deaths registered in local church records, copies of local newspapers, old photographs, and copies of every available census for their respective counties.

An excellent website for finding out the details of the resources which are held in libraries etc is the Familia here.

To find the details of the main archives that would hold records relevant to your research please click on a county below. To find out if there is a more local archive, the easiest way will be to ask at your local council or library.
