Glamorgan, Merthyr Vale and Aberfan Colliery

Aberfan is of course well known because of the terrible tragedy that befell the community on October 21st 1966, when the mountain - mainly coal waste from the colliery, became seriously compromised by an internal stream and slid down the valley engulfing all in its path. Over 130 souls were taken, including 116 children, killed whilst in the local school. God bless them.

There has been many tragedies associated with coal mining in South Wales, but none invokes more empathy or anger than that which destroyed a generation of school children in Aberfan on that terrible October day in 1966.

Sadly, I only have photographs of the coal mines that destroyed so many lives, but if you have any photographs of Aberfan I would be very obliged if you would share them with us and help brighten up this page.
