Glamorgan, Rhondda Valleys, Ynyshir General View circa 1950's

Ynyshir is the place where this webmaster was brought up, living in Upper Gynor Place. The village never existed until coal mining started in the Rhondda Valleys. The Lady Lewis, The Standard, Jones Navigational - all of the coal mines once stood on the valley floor of the village. The last of the coal mines have all now closed. If memory serves me right the average population of Ynyshir was a little over 6,000 people.

The above school photograph includes 'Little' Miss Davies and Mrs Isaacs (Headmistress). Children include Jane Evans (24, Upper Gynor), Geraldine Peake (29, Gynor Place),
? Oliver (22, Whitting Street). - Can you identify anyone else.
