Glamorgan, Rhondda Valleys, Treorchy, Abergorky Colliery Often referred to as Glamorganshire, the county is correctly named Glamorgan. Glamorgan, in the 19th and 20th centuries, was well known as the centre of welsh coal mining and iron and steel making. The docks at e.g. Cardiff and Barry were hives of activity, transporting, importing and exporting the products produced in the county. The influx of people to work in thesese industries was phenomenal, not only people from all of the other welsh counties moved here, but a great many people came here from England.
