Aberfan is of course well known because of the terrible tragedy that befell the community on October 21st 1966, when the mountain - mainly coal waste from the colliery, and seriously compromised by an internal stream, - slid down the valley engulfing all in its path. Over 130 souls were taken, including 116 children, killed whilst in the local school. God bless them.

Together we can build a wonderful archives of these old images. If you have any old, vintage, historical, edwardian or victorian pictures of Glamorgan / Sir Morgannwg, from the earliest days of photography, right up to the 1960's, then please do scan them for display and preservation on this site. Preferably either 1024 pixels in width, or for portrait style photographs 1024 pixels in height.
