Rhondda Valleys was once famed as the
coal mining centre of the world. In times past the people of
the Rhondda would help each other with what little they had,
and your neighbours were often as close
Of course times have now changed, and even though I no longer
live there I will never forget my wonderful childhood growing
up in Ynyshir in the 1950's and 1960's. In those days you
knew the names of everyone in your street, and many outlying
streets as well. I grew up at a time when one could
travel long distances on your pushbike without fear of e.g. being
abducted or attacked. A visit to Cardiff National Museum or Caerphilly
Castle would be nothing out of the ordinary despite Cardiff being
about 18 miles away. I guess we all believe that 'the old days'
were the best - I certainly do.
