Hayling Island is an island in the Borough of Havant in the county of Hampshire in England.
The above image of Hayling Island is kindly shared with us by
Kathy Longhurst Clark of Michigan, USA. Kathy recounts:
grandfather was a child, his parents worked on Hayling Island
estate. According to my grandfather’s sister, this was between
the time of 1914-1920. My great aunt would tell stories of the
crippled children being at a hospital there and how they were dipped
in the sea. Yesterday my mom showed me a photo of what we believe
may have been the hospital on the island around 1919. I have attached
a scan of the photo.
webmasters note: Lord Mayor Treloar in 1908 opened
his school and hospital - for children mainly crippled by T.B. -
in Alton, Hampshire.
