Old Photos of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and The British Isles.
Cambridgeshire, Cambridge, Jesus College Old Photos of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, including England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland (which of course is not in the United Kingdom). This website was launched in July of 2006, with the idea of preserving old pictures in perpetuity and displaying as many old photographs as we can of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. This
is a free to view website, that doesn't sell images, purely displays
them for your pleasure. It will - when complete - be one of the
most useful of resources available on the internet. The majority of the photographs are dating from the 1890's and 1900's. Most topographical photographs in those days were taken by photographers working for postcard companies, so many of these images are scanned from old postcards. We have old photos of the smallest villages, and we have old photos of the great cities like Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin, Belfast, London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham. There is something for everyone. We have far more photos of some counties than others, and we will redress the balance, hopefully with your help. Together we can make this the best photographic resource on the Internet. The United Kingdom of Great Britain consists of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom has arguably some of the most picturesque countryside and friendliest people in the whole world, and our photographs of life between the 1890's and the 1960's will attempt to illustrate some of the beauty within the four member countries. From the mountains of Wales, to the glens of Scotland. To the unique architecture of Ireland and the great mansions of England. You will find pictures of them all here, and much more besides. We intend to build the site into a reference site of great interest, a unique resource that you will want to return to time and time again. There are many of us with old photographs and postcards of the countries that make up the United Kingdom. Indeed, postcard collecting has become a popular and worthwhile hobby. These photos are a pictorial record of our times, and those of our ancestors. With your contribution we can build a wonderful archives of these images. Please do enjoy your visit, and add the site to your favourites, as there will be frequent additions. For speed of download the pictures are all in thumbnail size. Double click on any thumbnail and it will display the image in high resolution. If
you have any old, vintage, historical, Edwardian or Victorian
pictures of England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales, from the earliest
years, and right up to the 1960's, please do scan them for display
and preservation on this site. Preferably either 1280 pixels
in width, or for portrait style photographs 1280 pixels in height.
