Blaenau Ffestiniog, Car Gwyllt - Gwyllt means wild. This 'wild car' was the means that the men used to travel down the hill via the works railway, and looked similar to a log that the men sat on, that was fixed to one rail.

Blaenau Ffestiniog, Capel Cymanfa - the words Capel Cymanfa translates as Chapel Assembly or Festival, or even Chapel Congregation. Cymanfa Ganu - for example - means a singing festival, or congregation of song.

The images on this - and many other Blaenau Ffestiniog pages - are kindly shared with us from the collection of Roy and Ann Rowlands of Australia. Roy was born and bred in Blaenau Ffestiniog. The furnishings store in the left hand column was the family business. In the main photograph above (middle row 3rd from right, with a bowler hat) is John Rowlands (Roys Grandfather). Roy believes the picture may have been taken by the Territorial Hall.
