Twickenham is nowadays best known as the home of England Rugby, but is also famous for its' beautiful scenery and the flowing Thames that passes through it.

In the River Thames at Twickenham is an eight acre island known historically as Twickenham Ait, but more commonly as Eel Pie Island. Looking down on the island is Strawberry Hill, one time home of Sir Horace Walpole - 4th Earl of Orford, the son of the one time Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole.

Twickenham (also referred to in the past as Twittanham, Twicknam, Twit'nam, Tuican hom and Tuiccanham) has been a continuous settlement since the Neolithic times.
