Staffordshire, Chasetown, The Marchioness of Anglesey presenting
the 1st Chasetown Boy Scouts with their colours in 1914.
Coal mining began here in the 18th century, which was
known then as Cannock Chase. By the late 1860's the village was
known as Chasetown. It is actually an area in the town
of Burntwood.
Little remains of the coal mining period; other than the reservoir
that filled the canals used to carry the coal to Birmingham and
the Black Country, although Chasewater Light Railway has now been
restored.
Chasetown can however boast a football and rugby team, and also
has a specialist sports college.
The images of Chasetown on this page are kindly shared with us
from the collection of Wendy Jones.
